Persecution of Christians in Nigeria targets women + children
Our Foursquare family in Nigeria needs our support + generosity as they face severe violence
Real stories from persecuted Christians in Nigeria
On May 15, 2023, eight-month-old baby Precious Mani miraculously survived being shot twice, though tragically her parents and five siblings perished in a targeted attack on Christians in their village in Mangu, Nigeria.
In another nearby village, a grieving mother whose eldest child was among the victims shared her harrowing experience:
"We began hearing gunshots in the dead of night, around midnight. My grandmother, the girl who resides with us, and my firstborn were all killed. My five-year-old was also gravely injured, enduring immense pain."
A survivor from the Jwak community confirmed the premeditated nature of the attacks, describing them as meticulously planned to inflict maximum damage on Christians. The May 15th assault was particularly coordinated, occurring simultaneously across multiple villages, resulting in the deaths of many, including youths, children, and the elderly.
The current crisis
The ongoing violence in Nigeria's Middle Belt and North Central Region is deeply troubling, with relentless attacks on Christian communities claiming thousands of lives annually.
Recent atrocities in Mangu saw pregnant women and children comprising the majority of the 125 victims in a weeklong massacre. Additionally, over 4,683 families have been displaced, with emergency relief yet to reach those in dire need. More than 1,000 homes were either partially or completely destroyed, and 216 people were injured in the assaults.
These incessant attacks not only disrupt farming and economic activities but also lead to widespread kidnappings, leaving families destitute.
