As Flooding Devastates Northern Colombia, Churches Open Their Doors
Since early February 2026, severe flooding and landslides have impacted communities across northern Colombia following atypical rainfall linked to a cold front and La Niña–like conditions. At least 16 departments have been affected, with widespread damage to homes, infrastructure, agriculture, and essential services. Hundreds of thousands of people have been affected or displaced, with families facing urgent needs for safe shelter, food, clean drinking water, hygiene supplies, and medical care. Overcrowded temporary shelters have increased the risk of gastrointestinal and respiratory illness, compounding the vulnerability of already at‑risk communities.
Foursquare Disaster Relief, Foursquare Missions International, and the Foursquare National Church in Colombia are coordinating a unified, church‑led response through national leadership, regional supervisors, and local congregations. Churches are serving as operational hubs, temporary shelters, and distribution points for food, safe water, hygiene kits, and basic medical support where access allows. Local pastors and trained volunteers are also providing structured emotional and spiritual care, prayer support, and trauma‑informed pastoral care for affected families.
