Hurricane Beryl

Foursquare churches in 4 nations respond to massive storm damage

Hurricane Beryl has wreaked havoc across the Caribbean, South and Central America. The storm has worked its way up the Gulf Coast, made landfall in central Texas, and is now working its way through the central midwest. It has impacted hundreds of thousands of lives since it began in late June. The devastation includes widespread displacement, severe damage to infrastructure, and significant loss of life. It is the earliest recorded Category 5 storm in the Atlantic hurricane season.

The southeastern Caribbean islands have been especially impacted. 98% percent of buildings are destroyed, and there are no operational airports.

Foursquare Disaster Relief has partnered with national and local leaders in each affected region to facilitate need assessments, disaster preparedness support, and active responses. Currently, our FDR Medical team is in Jamaica, conducting a medical clinic and food distribution in partnership with Foursquare Jamaica. The team is actively ministering to the community as well, praying for those they encounter and bringing the hope of Jesus amid devastation.

Churches in the Central District + National Hispanic District are rising to the occasion to respond to their communities in Texas through yard clean-up crews, food drives, cooling centers and prayer ministry.

A local Foursquare church in northern Venezuela, whose building was one of the only remaining structures in the area after the storm, has transformed its building into a food distribution hub.

Devastating floods caused by Hurricane Beryl have deeply impacted northern Venezuela, but amidst the destruction, hope stands strong.

The local Foursquare church building was one of the few remaining intact structures after the storm and has become a beacon of relief. The church transformed into a refuge center for displaced families and is now at the heart of the community's recovery efforts, including debris clearing, food distribution, and spiritual care for those displaced.

Over the last year, FDR Medical partnered with Foursquare Jamaica to bring a planned outreach and training event that was scheduled to take place this week. Even though Hurricane Beryl has brought great suffering to Jamaica, God's timing proved perfect, allowing our medical team to transition to a disaster response and arrive just in time for relief efforts. As we assessed the storm's path and received reports from Foursquare Jamaica about the damage, it was clear that God's hand was on this mission from the start.

Members of our Advanced Lead Team are already on the ground in Jamaica, facilitating food distribution and ministry outreach in partnership with local Foursquare leaders. The medical team will conduct a full medical clinic and continue outreach and ministry efforts over the next weeks.
